If you're thinking about getting a Thai massage, you might have heard about all the benefits associated with stretching and traction. Thai massage is about a lot more than simply rubbing and kneading the back. In fact, many people find it to be quite intense.

Thai massage uses assistive stretching to help you achieve your goals. These are some of the ways your body may be stretched.

Quadricep Stretches

One of the most common stretches used in Thai massage is the quadriceps stretch. This helps to lengthen the front of the thigh. The therapist will hold your leg at the ankle and gently pull it up towards your buttocks. You are probably going to feel a stretch along the front of your thigh.

Hip Flexor Stretch

Another common stretch used in Thai massage is the hip flexor stretch. This helps to lengthen the muscles that attach to the front of the pelvis. The therapist will hold your leg at the knee and gently pull it up towards your chest. You should feel a stretch along the front of your hip.

Hamstring Stretch

The hamstring stretch is used to lengthen the muscles that attach to the back of the pelvis. The therapist will lift your leg at the calf while you keep your leg straight, and gently push it up towards your waist. You will likely feel a stretch along the back of your thigh.

IT Band Stretch

The IT band is a strip of connective tissue that runs along the outside of the thigh. It can become very tight, especially for people who run or cycle. The IT band stretch helps to lengthen this tissue. The therapist will hold your leg at the ankle and gently pull it up and out to the side. You should feel a stretch along the outside of your thigh.

Shoulder Stretch

The shoulder stretch is used to lengthen the muscles that attach to the front of the shoulder. The therapist will hold your arm at the elbow and gently pull it up and back. The stretch should run along the front of your chest and shoulders.

Neck Stretch

The neck stretch is used to lengthen the muscles that attach to the back of the neck. The therapist will hold your head at the temples and gently pull it down and forward. You should feel a stretch along the back of your neck.

Try Thai Massage For Yourself

These are just a few of the stretches that may be used in Thai massage. The therapist will tailor the session to your specific needs and goals.
